Story of my younger dd at one of our Mountain Man Rendezvous events. She was so intent on this project.
1st Journal block: Julianne was so excited when they announced at Camp Meeting that there would be a basket-weaving class held one morning. She could hardly wait for the day … and hurried down to the meeting place when the time came. The class was really meant for the women at the encampment, not for children. The instructor explained to Julianne that she would let her try, but she wouldn’t be able to go slowly or spend too much time helping her. I think maybe she thought that Julianne would eventually give up and go off to play. She obviously didn’t know our Julianne … as it turned out, Julianne was the first to finish her basket (and it is beautiful)!!!
2nd Journal Block: That evening, with Julianne’s permission, the instructor called her up at Camp Meeting to show her beautiful basket. She told everyone about her concern when Julianne first came to class, but how impressed she was with how well Julianne listened and followed directions. By the way, when we asked Julianne how she was able to be the first one finished, she said “because I didn’t talk.” (Seems most of the ladies at class did a lot of visiting along with their weaving!)
