A Promise Fulfilled *** In the Lap of Luxury *** Tenth Anniversary at The Homestead *** On our tenth anniversary, Larry and I lounged on our palatial balcony at the Homestead during the Fourth of July celebration that was going on below. There was a big party at the casino directly below our balcony, featuring a pig-picking, live music and dancing. The tables were spread with red and white checked tablecloths. We wore silk pajamas, drank champagne and listened to Senator John Warner sing a country western song. After dark, there was a dramatic fireworks display over the golf course, for which we had a much better view than the people at the party at the Casino. *** This was a whole lot better than our ninth anniversary when we were so broke that we celebrated our anniversary by going to Walmart to buy a stick of deodorant. The real purpose of our visit to Walmart was to enjoy some free air conditioning. *** We had made a promise to each other, on our honeymoon, that we would return to the Homestead every ten years. We have decided not to return again. That place was a little too rich for our blood, but we can always remember what it was like to wear silk pajamas and drink champagne, while listening to a Senator sing. ***
