Bruce and I went for a drive last Saturday and finally stopped off at this fabulous Chocolate Mill. We have driven past many, many times, always vowing we would one day stop. Well, we will be stopping many, many more times now!!! Journalling reads: The Chocolate Mill is located near Daylesford, Victoria. The house and shop is a straw bale construction, which is a building material that Bruce and I have long been interested in. It nestles into the bush setting beautifully, not looking at all out of place. It almost invites you to come inside and stay awhile. Following the winding gravel path, past native gardens, a pond and native animals sculpted from metal, you are led to the entrance of chocolate heaven. The aroma of chocolate is wonderful, and the sight of over 90 different types of chocolates makes your mouth water. There is a window inside the shop where you can watch the chocolate maker at work, and the sign above the window says it all I think "Please do not lick the glass". They were expecting the impossible! After spending quite some time looking, we had to make some final decisions on what we were actually going to buy, that was a near impossibility for me, I can tell you! When we had made our purchases, we decided to try a cup of hot chocolate in the 'Hot Chocolate Cafe`, which is in a large, undercover verandah next to the shop. The sign said it was the home of the 'Ultimate Hot Chocolate'. Well, we'd see. It turned out to be the best decision we ever made, it was hot chocolate to die for!! It was served in a large, oval mug with no handle ( I read it described as a V shaped cup of thin china), with real chocolate drizzled down the pointy end. The waitress said that we would have to stir the drink to melt the chocolate into the milk. Bruce ordered a dark chocolate, which was rich and smooth, without an overbearing sweetness. I ordered the chilli chocolate, which I was warned would get hotter the more I stirred. It was delicious! Dark chocolate, which again was rich and smooth, with a hint of cardamon and cinnamon and a little bite of chilli.....well, that was until I neared the end, then it started getting a little bitier, but still delicious. This will be a regular outing for us in the future.......perfection at its best.
