Journaling
When you (Justin) were a baby you would wake once or twice a night. About week 3 you started colic in the evenings and would cry from about 6pm until 8 or 9pm at night. You cried a lot and when I would carry you off my hip looking out at the world you would stop. I read the book ‘The happiest toddler on the block’ by Dr. Harvey Karp and read that the baby should be swaddled, but you never seemed to like it. One day I remember we were SOOO frustrated with the constant screaming that I told your dad to just swaddle you. I said swaddle him so tight that you can’t get your arms out. Dad swaddled you and you went right to sleep. From then on we would swaddle you and you loved it.

You still had some colic but for the most part swaddling helped you get to sleep. The other thing we would do would be to put you in our arms and rock you from side to side. You outgrew that about at 3 months old but now and then Dad would be able to soothe you that way when you didn’t want anything else. I remember once Dad was so frustrated with your crying that he put you in the car and drove around the block. I remember laughing about that.

About 2 months old you started to sleep through the night. You slept in your car seat until you were 3 months old. Your brother slept in his car seat due to reflux but we did it because we thought you would sleep better, and you did – all night long. Most the time you were swaddled – here you were not, which was rare. This must have been a nap you had. Most the time if you weren’t swaddled, you did not sleep long (found that out the hard way).
