I KNOW this problem (and I think I own that same dresser)! You have a lot of space to work with and, yes, wall space is invaluable. I personally have grown tired of open-shelf storage so I'm a huge fan now of vertical storage with a combo of shelves that have *doors* and drawers. I love office-type furniture, like a storage cabinet, or wall series like the Billy one from IKEA where I can buy a piece at a time and build on that. Another thing I have grown fond of are metal storage baskets/bins with a spot to slide in a label in the front. One possible option you have if you're on a budget is to take that dresser, put it up against the wall & build a set of shelves to sit on top of it; basically add vertical storage to it by turning it into more of a hutch.
The space looks great! Some paint on the walls and some organizing and you'll be ready to spend all your free time in this room.I can't tell what is behind that dresser, but you can staple some fabric to the sealing -right behind the dresser and you'll cover the pipes.Or you can get a screen and put it behind.
To think about: organize by color? or type? (i.e. brads, buttons, ribbons, etc.) Will you have uniform storage containers. All see-thru jars? or plastic bins? or photo boxes? Different shelves dedicated to separate categories? One shelf for embellies, one shelf for paper, one shelf for photos, one shelf for books and albums... Are you keeping the TV? Are you using the drawers for scrapping supplies? Do you have a comfy chair to take a break in and a rug to put it on? A floor lamp would look nice here.
Ok, and this is the photo to the far left. Where that board is leaning up against the wall i'm thinking of putting some shelves for storage of all of this little stuff!!! I think that is one of my biggst problems..too much stuff and no storage...
