I love this! The trail of tears also goes thru my birthplace! I am glad there is a big place to honor them! My niece lives in Warsaw, KY. I'm not sure what her last name is now, I'll have to ask my sister. This is beautiful. Good job.
Journaling reads: Hopkinsville is located about 15 miles from one of the largest army bases in the U.S. There are approximately 20,000 soldiers stationed here at Fort Campbell. There is also a memorial to the 248 soldiers from the 101st division who died on December 12th, 1985 in Gander, Newfoundland from a plane crash as they returned from a peace keeping mission overseas.
The Trail of Tears march came through Hopkinsville, Ky in 1838. A park is dedicated to those Cherokee who died on the march across the country as they were forced to leave their land and move to the reservations in Oklahoma. Two Cherokee chiefs are buried here. Annually, there is a Trail of Tears celebration that brings thousands to Hopkinsville to remember this event in history.
