Even though floods earlier this week closed access road to our original destination, our alternate hike turned out fantastic. The day was perfect - warm, nearly cloudless and with great visibility. What more could we wish for in the middle of November?
The trail to Norse Peak starts close by Crystal Mountain ski resort and the views of the ski area opened shortly after we started gaining elevation. They were soon followed by view of Mt. Rainier that stayed with us for the rest of the hike and the higher we got the better it became.
We noticed a side trail to Goat Lake on the way up and since we had plenty of time once we reached the junction on our descend we decided to check it out. Our little extra adventure led us to a viewpoint of a nice small lake nested in a peaceful forested basin. The lake lived up to its name – soon after we got there, we spotted a goat on a slope nearby.
