A search for a perfect kitty

With December approaching I knew my birthday is coming, Chad’s birthday is coming, and of course Christmas is coming. We decided to keep everything really low key this year and satisfy all the occasions with one simple gift – a baby kitten.

As simple as it sound, it was not easy at all to find that sweet little face that we both would fall in love with.

I started the search on several internet sites. I found plenty of Persian kittens available, seems like they dominate our area, and also some Maine Coons and Pixie Bobs but not too many Siamese or Ragdoll babies were offered and those that were available lived at least 4 hours drive time away.

I knew we were not in a hurry. December is always busy and I figured it will make more sense to get a baby after New Year since that when we can slow down and give it love and care it deserves anyways.

Then one day during my search, I was browsing variety of breeders, looking what other type of cat we could consider (even though in my mind I knew it would take a lot to make me change my mind from Siamese, my favorite breed) and I clicked on a link from one of the sides I was on… and the cutest kitty face appeared on the screen. I can swear my heart stopped for few seconds. I knew this was a cat I wanted.

Once the first few seconds wore off, I realized I had no clue where the cattery was, or if they had kittens available at this time or any time soon. They could as well be located on the other coast and it was very important for us to be able to visit with the breeder to see what conditions the babies are growing up and to get a feel for the owners to make sure the babies are treated as well as possible.

My hand was shaking when I clicked on the contact us page, praying for them to be somewhere in Western Washington. I was in for a nice surprise when the page revealed town on Snohomish, just 16 miles from our home. I nearly jumped out of my seat and my happiness grew even bigger when I saw the big red sentence “We have kittens”

I called them the very next day and we set up an appointment for later that day (December3, 2008). It was the sweetest thing to walk into the house and see all the gorgeous Balinese (or sometimes also known as silk hair Siamese) cats around. The babies at that point only 5 weeks old were running everywhere too and seeing the bigger cats can climb everywhere, the little guys of course were trying too. To my surprise, many of them were able to climb up and down couches at that very young age.

They were all super cute and very social, just as the adult cats. One of them was even friendlier. Little seal point boy who came to cuddle and was talking quite a bit. I looked at him and I knew this is the one that will go home with us.

The babies will be ready to go to their new homes when they are 10 weeks old and have shots they need which is just after New Year. What a perfect timing. I can’t wait to have baby Cooper home.
