That is so embarrassing - I know first hand. We were in a port in Norway - a tiny port. When we go to shore, we are usually there until 4:00 or 5:00 - 3:00 at the earliest so we didn't pay a lot of attention to the time. It never occurred that we had to be back by noon because the ship was leaving at 1:00. We got of the shuttle, didn't ask and went about our way. About 1:00 we decided to go back, we had used the internet and seen everything but when we went to the shuttle meeting place, the signs were gone. We asked in a store if it was the right place to meet and they said it was, but we were supposed to be on board by noon, so the last shuttle was at 11:30! Oh dear. Bill ran into a parking lot and a women was loading her car. Bill took money out of his pocket and said, "How much do you want to take us to the cruise terminal ASAP! She said she didn't want anything, just to get in and we made it in about 10 minutes. The ship was still there. Everyone was standing at the railing looking for us and everyone broke into applause when we pulled up. We got on board and were told our passports had already been turned into the port authority in that port, but they were able to get them back quickly. They were getting ready to pull out but would stop - would not have left us - a cargo ship had been waiting for an hour for our spot, but they would have tendered us to the ship. I asked why they didn't leave us. They said, "Not in this port. Its gets too far below freezing at night, there is only one hotel and it is not open now, and the polar bears roam the town late afternoon and dusk and they attack. You cannot be out without a weapon when it starts to get dark so you would not have been left. We told them we had never done this before - ever! And promised we would check the all-aboard time next time. Bill wrote the captain a very nice letter telling him we were sorry and it absolutely would not happen again. He told us they were used to waiting for people in this port because we are in port for only 2 or 3 hours. We have never even come close to being late again! Sad part is, we were just walking around town trying to kill time!
It is remarkable how many times that happens. You would think people would check better. We saw a couple so drunk that they missed the ship entirely. Everyone waved at them as we left port. I am so loving the paper choice on this one. It was perfect for sunset after a great day in port.
Stories like that one make a journey memorable, for sure! I love the sunset colors of your project. And the clever way you tied your decorative paper clip to your project - I'd forgotten I have some of those, so thanks for inspiring me today!
That is quite a funny story and I would imagine that tenders stay close by when the ship leave port as I bet it happens often people miss the sailing with different time zones so close.
A stunning lay out with great paper design and colors. I love all of the added blocks of paper!
Motifica! I love that BG paper (and I have it in digital and some hoarded stock of paper) I really love the little inchies you made and all the layering.
Made for a few challenges. Music Inspiration, Wood Veneer, Hoarders, Volume, "ABC's" of scrapbooking & Journaling. This was our Cruise to the Mexican Riviera in 2003 for our 25th anniversary. journaling reads: A funny thing happened… Puerto Vallarta is in Banderas Bay. Nicknamed “Bay of Flags.” It is a large bay and is even divided into two different time zones. We went on the Town, Country, and TequilaTour, that was 4 1/2 hours long. When the tour was over we stayed and shopped around the ship to make sure we were back by 4:30 pm. The ship was leaving at 5:00 pm. But, there was this couple that shopped for jewelry on the other side of the Bay. They kept checking the time but, the salesman said they were fine. Not realizing that there was a hour time difference from one side of the Bay to the other!!! When they were taxiing back they saw the ship pull away from the dock. They were screaming and yelling and waving their hands. They were able to get a small tether boat to take them out to the ship. They got on board from a gangplank with EVERYONE watching over the side!!! The crowd was hooting and hollering. They were so embarrassed, I am sure they stayed in their room for the rest of the trip.
