My word this is creative! The journaling is written so beautifully. I am the youngest as well and traveled across country with my parents. I totally can relate! Love how you documented your sweet memories! The city scape, road and every last detail is fantastic, awesome awesome job!!
This layout is fantastic. You sure did lots of work on this one. What heartwarming journaling you did. Love the city scape, the road, car, house, tree, wonderful choice of papers, everything!!! Again, creativity at its finest.
I have to say...this is one of your best. I LOVE everything from the heartwarming journaling to the page design with the road and the car. It is now in my favorites for inspiration later. Thanks for sharing.
Oh I Absolutely Love This! It really touched my heart, even though I'm the oldest of my siblings, I have some really precious memories of long car rides way after my younger siblings were sound asleep. It was my time to completely have my parent's attention. I loved those old days, wish they back;)
Thank you, so much for sharing!!!!
This is a different kind of layout for me. It's all about memories, no photos. The car is a picture I found online that looks pretty much identical to the car in this story.
The Story: I guess the greatest perk to being the youngest child in my family was that I got several years with Mama and Daddy after the others had all married. That started around the time we moved from South Carolina to Georgia in 1972. We settled in Griffin, a small town about 50 minutes south of Atlanta. Around that same time, Susan and Allen were living in an apartment off of Cleveland Avenue. We would drive up to see them occasionally, but the drive up was not what was really memorable. The drives home at night were a different story. Soon after we would leave to come home, I would stretch out across that wide back seat in Mama’s big old gold Pontiac. Mama always kept a small pillow in the car; so, I would nestle that under my head and lay there listening to the soft murmur of Mama and Daddy talking all the way home. They were never at a loss for things to talk about, which I now know is unusual for couples that have been married so long.
I wasn’t really eavesdropping. They knew I was there and they spoke softly in case I was sleeping. I could only hear the sweet melody of their voices. But, those soft tones made me feel so safe, and loved, and happy. I would lie on that seat, feeling and hearing the thump, thump, thump of the tires as we passed over the sections of pavement, and the thrumming vibrations of the Pontiac’s motor, and watching as the car lit up for a few seconds each time we passed under a street light. I was wrapped up in our own small world within that car, listening and thinking. I don’t remember what I was thinking about, but that isn’t the important thing. The important thing is the sweet moments that have stayed with me all these years; it is the memory of that sweet melody drifting back to me from that front seat, created by the two people who were my whole world.
The cityscape, orange, and teal pps are from "Girls Night Out" by We R Memory Keepers. The map pp is from "Are We There Yet?" by Carta Bella and the little house is from October Afternoon's "Farmhouse. The tree is made by hand - no pattern, just cut it out. The pp for the top of the tree is from "Hello Again" by Echo Park. The road was made using the "Hit the Road" Scene It All template. The "star" designs on the orange and teal were added using black chalk and a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop. The car was printed from an online picture and fussy cut. The lettering are all stickers. Thanks for looking :)
