We enjoyed Valpairso although its been a while since we have been there. They had a very old funicular system which was destroyed in an earthquake or some natural disaster the year after we were on it. Wonder if the one you were on is a completely new one or if they repaired the old one. Looking at your pictures again - this is different. The one we rode on went up the side of a mountain and was really kind of rickety! Not surprised it was damaged. Looks like there is another one or they built another one.

We spent the second half of this day trip exploring Valparaiso. There was so much to see and do, a few hours were really not enough in this beautiful seaport. 6/18

Valparaiso is located 75 miles NW of Santiago by road. Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaiso is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Riding in the funicular lifts (steeply inclined carriages) is a must.
