This is for the gallery inspiration challenge. This is a photo of a sign my high art teacher had hanging on our art door, a place near and dear to my heart. My high school is under major renovation, and after 32 years in the same room, they are moving/demolishing the current art room. That room is a mecca for its former students. It was a place of safe haven for so many, where we learned of tragic life events and grew into the people we'd become. My high school art teacher, Knish, is why I went into art education. She opened my soul to the world in a way no other person has. I was in this room my senior year of high school when word broke about 9-11. I was in this room when I learned fellow students passed away. This photo is just a symbol of the many ways Knish pushed you beyond what you thought capable of yourself and challenged you to be free and true to yourself. As a year four art senior, you could paint a brick on the wall. Hundreds of bricks were painted on the walls as mini stories of a legacy long gone. I painted mine just under my older brothers. The studio was layered in history of creative endeavors, growth and the stories of all who passed before. I surely will miss knowing that space exists.
