I think it is a Christening thing...This photo was taken over a hundred years ago...I don't think people were as concerned about an infants' masculinity as they are now. LOL

Reads: Who were they? Were they trying to smile, or trying not to smile? The baby in the photo is my Great Grandfather, Dave Oliver Eskew. My grandmother tells me stories of him being a kind and gentle man who taught his children wisdom, kindness and faith. I have often wondered if his mother had these same qualities. Did she yearn for excitement, or pray for rest? It could not have been easy to be a woman and mother in her time. My children love my Grandmother because she always greets them with a smile, patience and treats. I love my Grandmother because she has shown me so much generosity, strength and other timeless family traits. She has truly taught me to survive being a woman. I think her Father and Grandmother would be proud of us both. I hope together we can pass on to my daughters the same gentle kindness, patience and wisdom.
