He had a great looking house, I learned he did many of his paintings from non-living specimens, like his flamingo, the neck is twisted in a funny way beacause he never actually saw the way they really feed, (there is my tidbit of pretty useless info for the day.) sounds like you all had a great time.
Lovely shot, 'Red :) It's very cool that you (and so many others) have access to the old, historic places -- here in Alaska, we are such a "young" part of the country that there are very few places available with that kind of historical significance. You can find buildings in Sitka dating back from the 1700 and 1800s when the Russians owned the land, but nothing older here in our area than maybe 100 years or so.

Look at that fabulous house! I like the way it's built stepped into the hill like that. Would have loved to see his drawings. What a great day out for you and yes, you do live near some wonderful things!
We went to the Sugar Maple festival held here. We watched them demonstrate how to make maple suryp form the Native American's to modern day and then toured Audubons home. It has one of the largest collections of his work displayed, what beautiful drawings, he was qutie the naturalist. It was cold and very windy, since it overlooks the river, but we had a great time! It was built in the 1700's out of stone as were the barns and other outbuildings.
