This is my lo for the JANUARY **THE UGLY GAMES** Challenge. the "uglies" I was given are glittery orange/pale orange pp [I used for some of the small squares]; the blue mulberry paper with the blue twine stitched to it with the silver thread [I used as the background behind the pic and the little squares]; and a strip of cs embellies [I cut out the ribbon tail (on the journaling block) and the star (on the twine)].

I used both sides of the mulberry paper by cutting a frame of it and turning it over to the backside, which is the part that is outside the twine "frame".

Normally, I try to use mainly the "ugly" papers for this challenge, but I really struggled with how to make them work together, so I went through my stash and found some pps that had the oranges and blues similar to the "uglies." Since I was struggling so much with it, I decided to do a rather catawampus lo, so I started off layering everything rather askew and just let things go where they would. Once I had put down the little squares, I realized it looked kind of like a calendar, so I went with that idea. I decided I had left too much space at the top of the page, so I started trying to come up with an idea for a title that would kind of look like the top of a calendar (where the month would go). I just kept adding to it until I liked the way it looked.

Keeping with the calendar idea, I looked for a circle/oval frame for the pic, so it would be kind of like circling something on a calendar. The only oval frame I could find that would work with the pic was a plain cs, so I took black pen and did a big "circle" around the frame like you would on a calendar, but that looked weird, so I just kept circling until I liked it. A lot of calendar's end up with things pinned or clipped to them, so I added some paperclips with ribbon to the frame to dress it up a bit. For the journaling and date, I found some "calendar day" journaling spots I had and, fortunately, I still had a "Sunday" one. I used a date stamp to stamp the...now get this....the date!! (Creative, aren't I?! LOL) I stapled the journaling spot to the lo, because I often staple things to my calendar, then added the little flower, because it's a girly Easter lo, so it needed it.
