ooo my mom does the same thing, when the pitcher is full, she cashes it in. it used to be her pond fund. I do the same thing and it's my fish tank fund.
You need alot of willpower (or should I say 'won't' power.lol) to accumulate much, but it does get easier the longer you practice. I remember from childhood my mom had a coffee can plum-full for the county fair, we had to pull over on the way, I don't remember why, but my mom had set the can on the roof and forgot to get it before we pulled away. well, it landed in a deep ditch with really tall grass...us kids were willing to hunt for it and I think my mom was too but never said so, but my dad said it would take all day and we probably wouldn't find enough of it to make it worthwhile so we didn't go back to look. I can only imagine the joy of the next kid that came walking along that country road. Now we don't forget anything on the rooftop except coffee mugs.lol.
I have a glass pumpkin that we throw all our change into. The first Sunday of the month we take it to church for when the little ones collect $$ in their Buddy barrels for "Light for the lost". ( a mission's program) It is so cute to see all the little ones going around with their barrels collecting offering. Even Mr. Owen is allowed to carry a barrel. No surprise but the offerings are quite large.....Pastor often jokes that maybe he should let the little ones collect the regular offerings as well. :O)
I save my change all year until the Creating Keepsakes convention in May. And then that is what I use to buy supplies that we don't see around here. We are very limited with scrapbooking stores in NH.
I really should do this too - but I never has any cash on me to have change left out of - and if I do it pays the parking meters when we downtown to have lunch with my mother at work :)
wonderful tip, I fear my way of doing it is rather....ahhh...well.... dishonest. My husband saves his change too and always has a goal for it, well, it sometimes takes him longer than he thinks to get to that goal as I borrow from it. Borrow? Well, i take SOME.
Great idea. I wished I'd thought of that. When I got my first color printer I charged myself for color prints to pay for the ink. Everybody thought i was silly, but it worked.
This is my change tin, once filled I cash it in and take the money to buy a pre-paid creditcard to buy supplies on SB.com. My kids grew up knowing to save any change they found or had left over from allowance. Then at the end of the year they would choose what they wanted to do with it. They could either turn it in and keep the cash to put in their bank account or use it to buy christmas gifts for each other, or donate to a charity of their choice. I think only once did my son want to keep it. I put it in the bank for him and a week later it was withdrawn to buy canned items for a the town's Food pantry. Believe me he was soo happy and proud of himself for doing that.... Lesson well learned...
