This is a treasure in keeping the memory of your family and the beautiful art of Hardangersøm! You are right, not many left of those who know how to do it!
Oh my, this is absolutely incredible! And you complimented me on my teeny bit of stitching?! You truly are a great friend to make me feel good. Your mom is my stitching hero! Sounds like a great hobby for these chilly Norwegian winters.
This is great! For the first time in my life, I found someone else who knows 'hardanger'. I have been specialty hand stitching practically all my life but no one knows hardanger. I'm more into scrapbooking now, however this inspires me to mess the two together. Great lo and love the actual piece added to lo. Treasure the talent your mother has. Collect all you can. Thanks for sharing! SuziMac13
Your mom must have the patience of a saint! The stitching is exquisite...kudoos to your mom for her wonderful needle work and to you for creating such a pretty page to display it on!
Great scrapbook work and beautiful Hardanger work. Send my praises to your mom. I took a picture this Christmas of a Hardanger ornament I made 15 years ago and am going to use it in a Christmas layout soon.
Hardanger is an ancient form of Scandinavian cut work, requiring thousands of stitches to complete a small piece. It is nearly a lost art and I do not know any of the younger generations who can do it. I asked mom to make a small piece I could scrap on a 12x12 layout. I took a photo of mom working on a table runner and imposed it over a photo of my smallest Hardanger piece, then placed an actual sample on top. The journaling tucked under the sample reads, "Our family's Norwegian heritage is exquisitely displayed by mom's Hardanger embroidery & cutwork. Every stitch & every thread in the fabric is counted so the intricate designs match up at all points".
