Another vacation page. Journaling: In Esteli, we stayed in the Hostel Luna which is operated by an ex-pat Brit - pictured (blond) sitting on the steps of the Cafe Luz which she also operates. Kyle styas there often. The hostel was full so our room was located acorss the street in the back of the cafe sharing a small courtyard with the cosina.
One evening, Ken & Kyle were in the cafe having a Tona beer, I had stayed behind for a while. When I went to join them, the door wouldn't unlock, I was trapped in the room. I was able to get the attention of a waiter who didn't speak English and I don't hable espanol. I had two phrase books and didn't even think of getting one out. I tried to communicate that the door was locked. "No abierto", wrong conjungation. Once he understood that I was trapped, I asked him to go get my wife. He went to Kyle, and being the trickster he is, he just gave the poor kid the key. Kyle did follow him shortly afterward and they sprung me. The rest of the evening I could hear the cook say, "La Gringa Americana" ha ha ha ha!
The room was plain, but very clean, reasonable, with comfy beds and a helpful, friendly staff. I really enjoyed our time there.
