journaling: We went on a 3 hour guided eco-tour up a brackish river at Las Peñitas, Poneloya, Leòn. At $15 a person it was the most expensive thing we did while in Nicaragua and worth every penny. The diversity of the wildlife was wonderful and our guide was well informed and enthusiastic. The small square pictures, from left are a pelican and a heron in a tree (didn’t know they ever roosted in trees), but here are photos. The blue crab was fiesty with his Ninja pose. In the bottom left picture there is a well camouflaged alligator. We saw several as well as iguana.

The bottom right photo is our guide explaining how the pods from the mangrove trees fall into the mud and grow from there.
Right page, top left is a shot of the Pacific Coast and a formation of pelicans flying with precision.
Top right are seagulls and a pelican.
The bottom left is a termite nest. Parakeets peck a hole in the nest and build their own nest inside. After laying eggs, they reseal the outside and leave for 6 months. In January they return and free the hatchlings. Kyle says there are hundreds zooming around at that time.
The other photo is Ibis, very elegant birds and very hard to get very close to.
