Journaling reads: "Bella was a little kitty that was abandoned along North C Street, which was on the route where I delivered mail. The first time I saw her, she emerged from some landscaping timber and followed me a ways down the street. She was very friendly and would let me pet her and would often follow me thereafter. I was shocked at the site of her. Her hip bones and ribs were extremely defined. She was starving, sick, and parasite-ridden. She was in bad shape and I would worry about the poor little kitty on my route when I would go home at night. People in the neighborhood were trying to feed her and one would even take her in at night out of the cold, but she would barely eat...only little bits people fed her by hand. I wasn't sure she was going to make it.
I asked the lady who would take her in at night if she would keep the cat and care for it if I took it to the vet myself and got her all better. She enthusiastically told me she would. Well, the day I picked the cat up to take it to the vet I found out that the lady had been evicted so I was stuck with trying to find this cat a home after I got it on the mend. I printed out flyers with this picture on them and had some interest, but the little kitty was growing on me. Scared and alone, she would curl up in my lap (as she is doing in this picture), meowing and kneeding her claws into me.
When I noticed she had breathing problems, I took her back to the vet. I was told she had either been stepped on, crushed, hit, or suffered some such injury or had been born with a defect. Her intestines and other organs had pushed through her diaphragm and it was going to take an expensive surgery to heal her. Well, I couldn't let the little kitty suffer and I couldn't give her up (especially once making the decision to invest so much money into her). So...my household got a new addition. I named her Bella because she was such a delicate little beauty."
