On Nov 15 we woke to gusting Santa Ana winds and smoke in the air. Within hours, the flames were on either side of the 91 freeway, and we were advised to evacuate! We grabbed things, calling out to one another to remember certain items...medicine, keepsakes, photos. Sirens blared, helicopters flew overhead. Most of our friends & relatives also had to evacuate, so a place to go was shrinking by the minute.
I am including a newspaper article in a pocket on the back. The large photo on the left is the morning after the fire; the hills are no longer green. The bigger photo on the right is during the fire. All the flames and smoke blotted out our regular view of the hills and mountains!! Along the bottom of the LO notice the helicopter flying by with the water bucket, a nightime view of the hills behind our home, and items to be put into the car sitting on the stairs. 7,00 acres burned and over 115 homes were lost. There were other fires that same weekend burning in Santa Barbara and Sylmar.(Tea Fire and Sayre Fire) Ash was everywhere. Temps were the highest recorded in 70 yrs for Nov. TFL
