I remember this day, we were on our way to L.A., coming from San Diego. We had an aweful fire here in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo), to this day there is lots of burnt areas that were once green. Lovely, LO.
What a great documenting layout. That was a horrible week in California. I could not believe what was going on all over. We are north of Santa Barbara and then a small fire started in the San Luis Obispo area but they got it out within the day. So scary but we were no where close to the evacuated area. Glad you were safe. Stunning layout.
This is a brave page. Your talents as a scrapper really show well here. Great journaling font makes it look like a news layout. So many people forget that not all memories are pleasant but still worth remembering. The barbed wire and distressing help make that statement. Great page. Glad you survived.
This is so amazing. It's wonderful that you have documented this terrible event; and, in spite of the subject, it is still a stunning lo. We were thinking of you during this time and are so relieved that you are safe.
what an amazing LO! I can't imagine having to go through something like that, it must have been scary! You took some wonderful pictures, and although it's probably the least spectacular picture, the one with your packed bags is the one who speaks most to me, it shows like no other how close you were to disaster...
Frightening. I've been through other "forces of nature" but never this close to a huge fire. I could not even imagine what you have to go through there with the fires.
I just have to comment again. This is so scary and I still can't believe how close those flames/smoke is to those houses. I'm going to have to show this LO to my dh.
WOW.. That had to be terrifying. I'm sorry you had to go through this, but if it helps at all, you did an awesome job scrapping it. That helicopter picture really grips me for some reason. I hope all turned out okay for you.
That must be scary. Great job of documenting this, a lot of interesting info and the pictures are really good. Makes me not be sorry that it's snowing outside here right now.
Great job of documenting the fires! That must be so scary! My SIL and her family have had to evacuate twice this fall (they live down around Oceanside). When I asked her about living out there with the fires, the earthquakes, the rattlesnakes on her patio...... she said, oh well, you guys have to watch out for tornados! LOL! Don't know which is worse!!! Glad your home was okay!
Wow, first of all, you live in such a beautiful area...the mountains are gorgeous. I am so happy that you are safe and sound, you did a fabulous job documenting this tragic event.
great loglad your ok, very good use of lots of pics some time it helps us to look back and remember how lucky you are. i had a real bad accident in 2000 was hit head on by a semi truck was told im lucky to be here took 2 years of my life from me and a lot of therapy i dident even want people comeing to see me at the hospital i looked like frankenstine but my lawyer said take pic's i hated those pics and had a hard time thinking about the wreck and the pics and a good freind of mine told me one day to do a lo of it i said are you crazy i want to forget about it and she told me by doing the lo it would help me to let go and i did i finally was able to break down and talk about it. glad you and your family are safe.
That's very Sad.....So Devastating......
So glad to hear that no lives were injured...And that everybody is o.k...
Happy too, that you were blessed with no losses that others may have faced...
Thanks for Sharing! ox
I know you'll be so glad you scrapped this event yrs from now-though it may be hard to think about now. Your family was so blessed to be spared the loss that so many faced! Luv ya girl & am sooo glad you & yours are ok. This is a great multi pic lo-love your journaling-very informing Shawn.
Shawn, this is such an emotional piece. I love how you made the LO in a serious tone....as it should be. The black smudges are perfect, and I like the red inking, and barbed wire ribbon as well. Great "documentary" of what you all went through. Hugs....Patty
Oh, Shawn....no "technically speaking"on this one....just a twist in my stomach and a catching of breath and chills.....remembering the email you sent me that morning describing what you were seeing out your bedroom window.....now I really know what you had in front of you!!!!! Bless you and I'm so thankful you and your family are ok! OK...just a twinge of technical...Pics are amazing and terrifying....love the barbed wire break and the smokyburned distressed edges. As with all your lo's....you make the experience - wonderful or difficult - come to life and you take us there. Blessings - hugs, M
This is fantastic! I like the way you've done the journaling. The collection of pictures really shows us the huge impact of the fire at the time, and the devastation left behind. I think this is really well done. :)
On Nov 15 we woke to gusting Santa Ana winds and smoke in the air. Within hours, the flames were on either side of the 91 freeway, and we were advised to evacuate! We grabbed things, calling out to one another to remember certain items...medicine, keepsakes, photos. Sirens blared, helicopters flew overhead. Most of our friends & relatives also had to evacuate, so a place to go was shrinking by the minute. I am including a newspaper article in a pocket on the back. The large photo on the left is the morning after the fire; the hills are no longer green. The bigger photo on the right is during the fire. All the flames and smoke blotted out our regular view of the hills and mountains!! Along the bottom of the LO notice the helicopter flying by with the water bucket, a nightime view of the hills behind our home, and items to be put into the car sitting on the stairs. 7,00 acres burned and over 115 homes were lost. There were other fires that same weekend burning in Santa Barbara and Sylmar.(Tea Fire and Sayre Fire) Ash was everywhere. Temps were the highest recorded in 70 yrs for Nov. TFL
