This is for Debby's Dare, You in 52. What makes you you? My hidden journaling reads:
What makes me “me“? Another difficult question. I used to answer that question with the typical responses - I am a mom, I am a teacher, I am intelligent, I am insecure. And then I'd describe my background, my likes and dislikes. And through the years I realized that I was evading the actual question. What made me most aware of that fact was when I actually wrote out the answer to that question and re-read what I had written - and realized I spent most of the paragraph describing those around me - my sons, my students, my brothers. And an epiphany occurred. An ah-ha moment. I was lost in everything and everyone around me. And when re-examining the question, the answer I eventually found was that “I am I.” I am the soul or spirit that was here before my birth and will be here after my death. I am the desire to love and be loved. Of all the things I list as descriptions of myself, that is my only truth. For what more is there…..I am I……
