This is for week 25 of Debby's Dare, about memories of childhood siblings. While this isn't the best photo, it brings back so many memories of when my brothers were born, especially since I later had twins myself and had this wonderful comparison I could make. My journaling reads:
I was only 8 when my twin brothers were born. I remember the anticipation - of learning to embroider so that my brothers and I could hand sew squares for baby quilts, one for each new baby. I remember walking down to the hospital to see them, but at that time children weren’t allowed in the room, so we looked through the window from outside the hospital to see our new brothers. Gale was much larger than Rob and developed faster. Rob could barely sit up and Gale was already walking around. He would bop Rob on the head with a toy and laugh as he got out of the way. (I guess it didn’t surprise us when Gale ended up the athletic one and Rob went into computer programming!) My most vivid memory of the young twins was that of my uncle entertaining them. He took a suction cup toy and stuck it to his forehead, not realizing that the suction mark would stick around a lot longer than the toy. He wore that circular welt for a long time! Perhaps our most repeated memory of the guys occurred when they were toddlers. Our laundry was downstairs in our basement and a near disaster occurred when the drier caught fire. It was only after the fire was out, that we realized what the boys were doing during this emergency. They were running to the bathroom, filling glasses of water, and, giggling all the way, they would run to the basement stairs and toss the water down the stairs. They were only trying to help!
