Journaling: "Confession: I'm 42 years old, and I love Japanese cartoons. It started innocently enough, watching Pokemon with the boys. At first I made fun of the 'big-eyed' animation style, but I quickly became fascinated with the conventions of anime: big eyes, unorthodox hair colors, colorful backgrounds, the face fault. I realized that cartoons could have complex plotlines and character development sustained over a whole season. Watching Pokemon soon led to Sailor Moon, when I discovered it late at night, which led to my first ventures into fandom, which led to contact with other anime fans, which led to Fushigi Yugi and Cowboy Bebop and InuYasha and just about anything else Cartoon Network showed late at night, which led to collecting videos and dvds and manga (graphic novels) and the occasional collectible item. Yes, it's an expensive hobby (just like scrapbooking), but (just like scrapbooking) it's worth it to me. (By the way, don't ever EVER EVER call it 'Japanimation' in my hearing. Or I will beat you with soggy ramen.) 9/05
"THE STUFF: 1. Part of my prized collection of imported Rurouni Kenshin manga. I can't read them, but I did find translations online. 2. Me and my Kuroneko (literally, 'black cat'). 3. Rurouni Kenshin DVDs and Trigun manga - two of my favorites."
