journaling is loooong, and reads: After letting your second birthday pass with little recognition (due to your brother being born three days later) I was insistent that you have a real party for your third. I was sure that you were old enough to understand that it would be your day, all about you, and you would love it. Boy, was I right! You were excited from the moment we passed out the invitations, to the moment we baked the cupcakes, to the moment when your friends started arriving! You wanted a Bug’s Life party, but we couldn’t find any specific Bug’s Life effects, so I made the whole party a bug theme. You loved it! First we had bins of beans which hid little plastic bugs and you and your friends got to “discover” the bugs and keep them. Then we made “stained glass” butterflies out of colored tissue paper and contact paper. Finally, we ate “caterpillar” cupcakes, each with licorice legs, and the head (yours) having life saver eyes and gummy worm antennae. You thrived on having the attention all on you! Your “little” friends (Seth, Frankie, and Jaxon) loved chasing the loose balloons all over the community center. You opened your presents, which included My Little Ponies, a purse, a crown, an umbrella, a stuffed bunny, an Elmo purse, an Incredibles sleeping bag and display poster, and My Little Pony plates and a dry erase board. Then you handed out your goodie bags and thanked your friends for coming. Guests included: ...(edited for privacy) Hannah, I love seeing you with all the confidence of knowing that you are the most important thing in the world. I hope that you can keep your confidence as each birthday passes, and that you will always know that there are many who love you. I am glad that this year we got to honor you properly as the “party girl.”
