It's a gorgeous layout! all the details are so intricate and so emotional! the tattered punchwork, the column of butterflies in black, the memories... Great job!
What a wonderful way to commemorate the "critters" in your life. The story was so interesting and the stones was a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing a piece of you.
What a sweet layout! You did a beautiful job on it - the little stepping stones for each of them is very touching. Thank you for sharing their stories.
This page is about all the animals I had growing up who have passed on. Journaling says: Mom made mosaic stepping stones for all the beloved animals we have buried over the years in the backyard and then placed them along the edge of the landscaping behind the garage. They are lovely tributes to our dog and cat and all my gerbils and my sweet little parakeet. I miss them all. March 24, 08
On this visit to my parents' house I got to see them finished and set in the yard for the first time so I took a photo of each stone. Candy was the spaniel mix that my parents got when my mom was pregnant with me. She died when I was a senior in high school. Kimi was the cat that I got from my friend's grandma after Candy passed away - and then I went off to college. She was with my parents for 18 years. Jay was my first gerbil, and Houdini was the 'replacement' gerbil my dad bought to pass off as Jay when he thought Jay was going to die - LOL Jay pulled through. Midnight and Starlight were a pair of black gerbils I had in junior high - when we bought them, they were in a cage of 'male' gerbils at the pet store. Uh huh - the 10 names on the two stones on the bottom right were their babies. Stevie was the parakeet I got the very first thing after I moved into my first apartment. She lived for 8 years, and I took her back to my parents' to bury when she died so she would be with all the others.
This was an emotional LO to do - lots of stirred up memories. I'm happier with the way it turned out than I thought I would be with all these pictures to include. I cut each stone out of its individual 4x6 pic. The size I needed for the mat of the center pic was not correct for punching to work right, so I distressed it by tearing random places and ripping out the places where the punching didn't line up. I did a resist stamping on the tag with VersaMark ink and clear embossing powder, and then layered the Glimmer Mists to get the colors I wanted. I wanted the butterflies to be like a column of them rising heavenwards, and there is a butterfly for each of my pets - 2 big ones for Candy and Kimi, 5 medium ones for Jay, Houdini, Starlight, Midnight, and Stevie, and 10 little ones for the baby gerbils.
This will be for the Multi Pic Challenge and the Stamping Challenge. TFL
