You really captured the character of a cold, wintery day, the kind where you can see the quiet. This is just beautiful, and the story behind it is something I can only be amazed by. I guess I shouldn't complain about 30!
Wow, this is so pretty and dreamy! Interesting story behind the lo - I was so glad to learn that the birds escaped! That lyric is perfect for the title!
Oh dear, sounds like the geese didn't get far enough south this winter. Glad they got un-stuck though. You've done a gorgeous winter layout -- for a beginner at this winter thing ;-)
Shame, poor geese! Lovely layout with all my favourite colours! Love your snowflakes and that you added a pic of your odometer to show the temperature. I don't think I'll survive there! Stunning layout!
What I neat story to read... I was fascinated! I have an author friend that would be totally in love with your story! He calls the lake behind his house Goose Lake! And the different snowflakes!
Brrrr. I remember that kind of temperatures when we lived in Alaska. My warm thoughts are with you. The cold temps do provide some wonderful photos. How smart of you to snap a wonderful one. The page you made is gorgeous. The love the "outdoorsy" colors.
The colours in this layout scream winter. What an awesome photo to have taken to capture a strange phenomena. It really is amazing how nature takes care of itself. It was too cold for anyone to come out and hurt these geese as they waited for nature to set them free. The layering is amazing and looks like it was all there to start with. Those snow flakes are brilliant dies. Nice layout capturing such a cool moment. So glad I am not the only one to stop and take advantage of a photo op when I see one.
What a lovely layout! The colors are just so fitting for a frosty winter photo! For us in Canada that's not cold at all but I know when you aren't used to weather like that it isn't pleasant!
So earlier this year - January 17 to be exact - I went out to my truck to find THIS. Minus NINE degrees outside. I had some errands to run, but my poor truck was struggling with the cold.
I know, I know, North Dakota thinks I'm whining, but the truth is, temperature is relative, and down this far south we are not accustomed to seeing this kind of thing.
Neither, apparently, are the wintering birds, because as I was driving over the river, I noticed that it was frozen absolutely solid. It doesn't flow very fast anyway, and it's extremely shallow because the local power plant siphons off most of it into a lake for cooling water usage.
Hmmmm. That's interesting. I've never actually SEEN the river freeze solid before. And then I saw the geese. Along the shore, legs frozen into the water. Lucky that this part of the river is in town, so they're protected from anyone wanting to take a pot shot at them. But still. Poor birds.
It DID warm up a bit later that day, and an hour later when I came past on my way home, the sun had worked its magic, the river was moving again, and the birds were gone.
Still, it was an amazing thing to see them stuck like that. They didn't seem to be overly distressed about it, but that's only because it was too cold for the kids on their four-wheelers to be tearing up the sand dunes.
I also am turning it in to the Music Inspiration challenge. My song this round was "If You Came Back From Heaven" which has a line in it that says, "it would freeze me in my tracks." Lucky me to have a picture that fits!
