Every year, I'm invited to judge a regional horse show series which runs from February through October. I don't judge every show - there are three of us who split the shows between us so that competitors get different perspectives - but I always judge the first one and the last one.

The shows are the last Saturday of the month, and because they're pointed, competitors show up for the first one ready to start the run for the year end high point awards. To miss the first show is to be at a disadvantage for the rest of the season. There is a slate of 85 classes, and it's not unusual for me to see 50 or 60 different competitors.

Last week, we had an ice storm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday it rained. Friday it rained. Saturday morning it rained. And we still had a well attended horse show. The competitors were cheerful, Toby the barn cat flirted with everyone as they filled out their class cards, and the mud and rain were just a minor annoyance. The Pony Club had hot chili for everyone, and one of the competitors brought Girl Scout cookies ...

It wasn't as big a show as it could have been - because the rain really was pretty awful and the mud was horrendous, so a lot of people stayed home. But those of us who were there had a lot of fun and those who went home with blue ribbons are already leading in the points standings.

I also managed to get in a half-dozen Pony Club ratings for kids who are planning to attend the regional dressage rally next week. They were scheduled to rate on Sunday, but I said, "since you're already here, and I'm already here, and your horse is clean, and the courses are set -- how do you feel about just getting it done today?" And the parents were DELIGHTED that I was willing to do it. But what they didn't know was that *I* was delighted to do it because it saved me another round trip all the way back the next day.

I finally managed to pull together the specs for the ABC challenge this month, thanks to Toby the flirting barn cat...
D ~ Doily (product)
E ~ Egret (color)
F ~ Flirt (word)

Also for my AGC Weekly Challenge and my Project 52 week 9

And I think this one finishes me up for February. I wasn't sure I was going to get them all done. Thank you, Toby!
