These are some photos that were taken at the Flying Pig in Cincinnati. I ran the half marathon, not up to a full one YET. There is a hidden photo of me in front on the American flag with my metal and some journaling on the back of it which reads:
It was a cool morning, May 7th 2006. I got a ride with Tracey Macmanama and her husband Dave. Tara Michelle was there too. We left at 4:45am to get to Cincinnati before the streets were closed at 5:00am. We parked pretty far away from the start at Paul Brown Stadium but very close to the finish line at Sawyer Point. I remember how nervous I was, I had heard so much about "the climb" up to Eden Park, a 2.5 mile gradual up hill climb. I thought I had trained pretty well although I had not run more that 9 miles before this 13.1 mile race. That is except the last half-marathon I did in Indianapolis October of 2004. I was not so sure I was prepared. Tom had driven me up to Eden Park so I could take a look at the hill. It looked hard. I remember when they shot the cannon off at 6:00am for the start of the race, they played "Baby you were born to run" by Bruce Springstien. It was so cool. It took about 5 minute before I actually got across the starting line. I was amazed at how many people were there to watch and provide entertainment. When I started over the bridge from Kentucky back into Cincy the sun was just coming up it was so beautiful. I had made the first 4 miles easily next was the climb. Much to my surprise it was not as hard as I expected. Maybe it was all the hills I practiced on at home, but I ran up the entire thing. When I made the turn home and it was downhill I let it out and started pushing myself, I was passing people and it felt good, but it did not compare to what was to come. The last half mile, people were everywhere cheering and clapping. It was so much fun. When I made the final turn and saw the finish line I was so happy I could have cried. I had met the goal I had set for myself. I ran the Flying Pig half-marathon, without walking. Yippee! Right when I finished they handed my my metal, there it was, the completion of my task. Now all that was left was to go home and share it with the four people who matter most in my life.
