I love what Grandma Sue said :) She is the best! This is a great layout! Your dad looks very adventurous!!!! I love the idea of hamering brads - as I have never done it myself!
Cool page for your dad!! About inking ... it's not that hard. What I would do is get one of those small preinked pads like 'versacolor or color box, they're pretty cheap ususally under $2. What's nice about them is they have a sponge base that makes them super easy to work with (and no big splotches or lines). First try running the ink just down the (outside) edge of the paper, to kinda get the feel of it, then go to the corners and just kinds smudge the front of the paper in the corners, a little at a time, and keep doing it until it has the desired effect, then just smudge the edges (front of patterned paper), lightly running the ink pad down the front edge of the paper. Experiment around with it, and you'll get the hang of it. The nice thing about inking, it's your own personal preference, a little ... a lot ... whatever you like. And have fun. Don't be scared to use it! If you don't like the results - just do it over. .... best try it on scraps first....hehehe!!!!! I love inking!! You will too!
I did this for the April "Scrap the Men" challenge. Since I can't seem to figure out how to age a LO with ink, I tried something else, wet the papers and then burned them with flame. The piece with the journaling is also burned lightly in places in the middle, but it doesn't really show in the pic. The brads are hammered flat and the grungeboard was done with alcohol ink and then some metallic pearl white acrylic paint on top. Oh, and I also roughed up the edges of the pic, but the fading is real - my parents stored it in a regular photo album for years. I had alot of fun with this one, TFL!
