LOL what a great story! I remember these chains but never heard about making one to be as tall as your boyfriend... probably a good thing, since I didn't have a bf until my senior year & wasn't much of a gum chewer, either!

Chewing Gum Wrapper Chain

Journaling: (Under yellow mat) By the time I was 13, I was boy crazy. One day I saw one of my friends making a chain out of chewing gum wrappers, so I asked her about it. She said the girls who had boyfriends were making them the exact height of their boyfriend, then they would give it to them to show their undying love. Well, I had a boyfriend so the next trip to the grocery store with my mother, I bought a couple of packs of Wrigley's peppermint gum and got started on my chain. I have never been a big gum chewer and, of course, we couldn't chew gum at school, so it took me a long, long time to make that chain. In fact it took me so long to make my chain that I went through several boyfriends! I just kept making my chain whenever I would remember to buy gum. By the time I finished my chain, I didn't have a boyfriend, so I made it six feet long. I don't know what happened to it. My mom probably threw it away! :(
