One of many photos of each of my babies when they are sleeping. Usually I leave the room before they're asleep (and the lights are out), but every now and then they fall asleep before I can leave - usually after a very busy day. This was one of those times and I just stood there and watched them sleeping wondering what they dream about (asking my son is pointless since he always says 'I don't know'). It's my hope that they dream as big as they can both now and always and that's kind of the inspiration behind this page.

Anyway, this is for the August Monthly Sketch Challenge: Week 1. I loooved that sketch (and will probably do it again). Funny story. This was my original idea when I first saw that sketch back when Pat first posted them at the end of July. I thought of doing the dream catcher with the kids sleeping for the circle piece. I even searched and printed the little photos (and was mad they came out dark!). I even sketched out a rough draft of the page idea in my head. I was all ready. And then vacation happened, and back to school, and soccer season and everything just happened so fast it was the end of August before I finally had time to do these sketches. And I completely forgot about the original idea! I had a photo from my vacation trip picked out to do instead. Well I sat down last night to do that photo and was rummaging through my stuff and found the original sketch, the photos, the papers I had planned - everything! Liiiight bulb!

OH YEAH!!! So I switched gears and decided to do my original plan - but I decided against the papers I had initially found (Kaisercraft Boho Dreams) and pulled out that Zodiac paper pad by DCWV - which I'm coming to LOVE! Had to figure out how to do the dreamcatcher so it stayed on the page. I didn't have a metal ring of course and the die cutting plate I had was too small. So I pulled out my needle and trusty embroidery thread and just started stitching. I stitched the black circle border first, which took a while.

Now, I had taught myself many years ago to make dream catchers. I remember being maybe 12-14 and we were on our annual family trip to Ocean Shores and I had convinced my parents to stop at this craft store in town that I loved. They had a dreamcatcher-making kit and I bought it with my own money and that started a dreamcatcher-making phase, where I found different materials to use as the web, large, small, color themed, I tried it all and I only had the little kit and the nice lady who owned the store to give me tips (she was a quarter Native American if I recall.) They're not super hard once you get the hang of them. But it's been, oh let's call it a 'few' years since the last time I made one. So I have to toot my own horn a little bit because I'm super impressed with how this one came out! Specially since 1. it was the first attempt, and 2. it's on paper instead of on a ring. Anyway, I'm really happy with how it turned out, even with a couple little errors in there!

On to the page now. I really didn't want to distract from the dream catcher, or cover it up in any way so I kept the rest of the page simple, using that TH mask and a Stampin' Up star mask, the feathers and the title and bits of wood. Totally happy with how it turned out!

This is also for the Not to be Squared Challenge, Wood Embellishment, National Relaxation Day (8/15) Stamping, Sewing and my Hoarders Challenge.

WHEW! TFL!
