The journaling for this LO is a rhyming poem that I wrote. It really captures the personality and milestones of my ds at age 1.
Here it is:
Now that you have just turned one;
It seems like the fun has just begun…

Each day you find new things to explore;
This new big world is never a bore.
You love to play with each new toy;
That you got for being the birthday boy!
Toys are not the only things that you play with;
You like to touch anything you can get away with.

Since you’ve turned one, you’re learning a lot;
How to eat, drink, talk, walk, stand, and squat.
You know a few words like banana and ball;
It’s amazing the things you seem to recall.
You know lions say rarrr, and cows say moo;
You even know the sound that fish make too.

You never took a bottle, and went straight for the cup;
Although it’s a sippy, you still slurp drinks up.
Finally, you can enjoy eating a lot more food;
Since you got more teeth, so stuff can be chewed.
You’re learning to master the fork and spoon;
Fine dining will be within reach really soon.

Walking has been your greatest success;
You take your steps slowly with lots of finesse.
For balance you hold your hands up high
It’s so cute to see you go toddling by.
Although you can’t yet, you’re ready to run;
This walking business is so much fun

People always tell me that you are so happy;
They tickle you and coo and it gets really sappy.
You’re the life of the party wherever you go;
We love to watch you go to and fro.
Your sparkling personality is a real crowd pleaser;
You’re a good sport, ever around a teaser

These hands and these feet are still very small;
But they will grow big in no time at all.
Stay curious, work hard, be kind, and polite;
Be happy, be friendly, and full of delight.
Where ever you go in life, please always know;
Just how much your mom and dad love you so.

Special Techniques:
The black and gray stripes were 1/4" pieces cut from cardstock. The black was sewn on with a zig-zag stitch. I tied ribbon around the gray strips. The white carstock that has the hand/foot prints on them were mounted on black painted chipboard. And adhered with mod podge. I used the same stitch around the black matts for the pewter plaques.
