Here's a bit of Chinese culture. Lotus seed paste is an acquired tasted...you have to have had it when you were a kid to like it. Most people that have never had it until they are adults think it's absolutely bizarre!

journaling: The kids wait anxiously every year for the Mid-Autumn Festival (Mooncake or Harvest Festival) to arrive. Mooncakes, labouriously handmade with lotus seed paste - wrapped with a stamped dough outside, are given as gifts and are only made this time of year. No one likes the slightly salty egg yolks except for me.

This year my dad’s uncle visited us and brought us the most fancy box of mooncakes made with ‘nouveau’ fillings strawberry, green tea, cantalope and more standard flavors such as red bean and lotus seed. Although, we all tried the different flavors, we all still prefer the classic lotus seed flavor.
