It does look a little odd. We have a few on the yard where I grew up that look like that. One got hit with the mower when it was young, and the other my cousin drove over with a snowmobile when it was young.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that this pine tree wasn't designed like this, with the top lopped off. Maybe a teenage prank? Who knows.
