journaling reads: The day after Thanksgiving a surprise visitor showed up to help us celebrate the Christmas season. We named our elf on the shelf Snickerdoodle! He was sent by Santa Claus to keep an eye on us and let Santa know if we were behaving. God keeps an eye on us all the time just like that…watching to see if we are good or bad and knowing if we need help. Snickerdoodle got into lots of mischief at our house! Despite all the trouble he caused, we always forgave him and got a good laugh out of it. Snickerdoodle reminded us with a water color painting that God is always with us and will forgive us if we just ask. Our elf played with our Nativity scene and brought us a special book reminding us that Jesus is the real meaning of Christmas. God sent his Son, Jesus, to be our Savior, so that we may have eternal life through Him. Snickerdoodle liked to hide in strange places in our house…the freezer eating ice cream, hanging from the ceiling fan in Kadence’s room, our refrigerator where he turned the milk green, and even the branches of the Christmas tree. He made friends with our toys-listening to Christmas music with the dolls and stuffed animals, writing Kadie’s name in the etch sketch, playing Hungry Hippos with the stuffed animals, and even had a date with Meisa Ugly Baby! He tried to wear our clothes sometimes too! Reagan’s shoes were too small but Mommy and Daddy’s were too big, but Kadence’s shoes fit just right! He got out Reagan’s snow pants to enjoy a fun filled Snow Day during a blizzard. He really enjoyed wearing all the girls’ hair bows…so pretty. He made messes sometimes too, squirting toothpaste all over the sink when he brushed his teeth, building snowmen out of marshmallows, leaving Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup wrappers all over the kitchen, and even toilet papering our Christmas tree. He tried to bake cookies and got flour all over the table, so he made an angel. Many of mommy’s friends on facebook seemed to think it looked like a giant penis…dirty minds! Snickerdoodle really enjoys music! He played Kadie’s keyboard and daddy’s guitar and trumpet. Snickerdoodle enjoyed hanging on the curtain rod to see Bill and Judy’s Christmas lights next door and even added a picture of him to our picture frame after he put graffiti on our family photo. He brought us a new Penguins of Madagascar Christmas movie and the next night we caught him watching it and eating popcorn in the basement. One night Reagan fell asleep in the rocking chair and he snuggled up next to her for a nap. We really enjoyed our visit from Snickerdoodle the Elf. We cannot wait for him to come back next year so we can see what kind of trouble he causes.
