Recently heard an artist say you have to practice your art a lot, to see what works and what doesn't. I always thought I wasn't an artist but she explained artists have to try MANY things before they learn how their products work, and what they like, perfect their drawing abilities, etc. I had bought the Jane Davenport Mermaid Markers and my 1st attempt was HORRIBLE (see left). Looks like clown makeup. I almost gave up and thought of returning them but remembered what that artist said. So I used a paper plate, adding TONS of water to the marker ink, then was able to blend it and move it to my liking. I also used some distress inks with water. I added this to my journal to remind myself that "fails" serve a great purpose - I now know one thing that does NOT work with these markers, if I want a soft blended look. Gotta add TONS of water.
In this journal, I added a color xerox of the original so I could remind myself that "fails" aren't fails at all - they are opportunities to learn. On the original, I added Charcoal glitter paper hand cut for crown then added trim around the bottom edge of the crown, holding it down with large fake diamond brads. I then turned the original into a wall hanging by adding a VERY COOL thick metal chain (wish I had a 100 of those but found it in a clearance bin) to the top of the crown. I color Xeroxed it and gave the original as a present. I did add the glitter paper & brads to this copy for my journal, because she demanded her crown.
Oh and if you're thinking of buying these markers, they are awesome because they are highly pigmented and gorgeous colors, which obviously can be watered down to your taste/need or left undiluted.
