Watched Dina Wakley's “Daily Demo” tutorial on YouTube, on how to make a mini book out of one sheet of paper and just had to make this. This was such a fun project. Her paint colors, AWESOME gloss sprays (GREAT for splatters!), it's cute size, and the ability to tuck tags into two of the pages, made this mini book so adorable. Maybe my fave project ever. I painted an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of smooth watercolor paper with Dina Wakley Media (DWM) turquoise (to make the book), adhered the bottoms and sides with Washi tapes, leaving two tops open to tuck in the tags. I then painted additional sheets DWM Lemon, Cheddar & Fushcia, to use for sun, torn strips, hearts, etc. I didn't have her adorable black & white washi tape, so I painted black hearts and squares, using her stencils and mine, so I would have things to tear up, for layers. Used watered down DWM paints to color bird & used White gloss sprays (did I mention the gloss sprays are AMAZING?!?) to make swirls on the sun. Used other gloss sprays on the tags, which tuck into various pages of the book. Gloss sprays also used to flick splatters on each page. Text typed on computer on plain xerox paper then painted the edges with DWM black paint. Tied book together with yellow lace from stash and tied a small piece of orange seam binding that I have in my stash, that I dyed using Tim Holtz spiced marmalade ink.
My Dad and GG have been under strict lockdown since the virus all started so I wanted to encourage them. I printed the photos on my home printer - not the best quality but I really wanted to get it done and in the mail to them, in hopes to cheer them up.
Blessings everyone! Hope you're hanging in there.
Debbie
