Did you know that Yellowstone has a petrified forest too? This is the remains of a redwood that was swiftly buried by volcanic debris and mudflows about 50 million years ago. Eventually, silica from the mudflows and ash filled the cells of the tree and replaced them preserving the shape of the tree to this day. We did not do rest of the forest, just took this one turn-off to see this tree. They had to fence it to save it from people stealing pieces of it. There were other fossil trees (I like to call them fossil trees because it is more accurate geologically) nearby but they have been taken away by previous visitors to the area.
