SHCG: I really appreciated the details and textures after looking at the enlarged version. You would never be able to tell from the photos that it was a rainy day and slightly scarry hike. The yellow and pattern paper really brings out a warm, nature feeling and your journaling/photo captions adds a whole other dimension really capturing the day. My only feedback would be that green felt. It is like you teased us with it. Did you get the felt ribbon or just small pieces? to me, longer horizonatl sections of felt would have worked better (especially on the second page).
SHCG: I like that you went with yellow despite the weather. I think it matches the sunshine you felt from within when recalling these memories. I couldn't tell that you added some stamping until I read your description. That's talent, and the revised pp looks great! I like how the mesh helps the flow, and the wavy pp on the right adds interest by varying the straight lines of the pp on the left. I also like the felt pieces and the unassuming size of the title, yet you give it just enough attention by matting it and adding stamps. I have to say I'm surprised your journaling didn't capitalize on the site's unfortunate name. Proofreading turned up some missing commas; let me know if you want me to point them out. I wanted to suggest moving down the skinny photo, third from left, to fill in some of the negative space below, but then the mesh would obscure some legs. How about another branch stamp instead? I like the scribbles on the title mat, too, and kinda wish they were on that neutral strip that connects the group shot and your couple's pic. You did a mountain of a job on this challenge, and way to lead the pack on this hike! I wish I'd seen this sketch; I really could've used it on the lo I've been struggling with.
SHCG: Love the colors of this. Your journaling is always awesome! For a rainy day, the pictures are great. The colors on the page really accented the pictures for me.
SHCG: Thanks for taking on the challenge! You did an awesome job! I love, love the yellow bg-works so well with the photos! The mesh is super cool here so is the felt border! I love the stamped pp-just so pretty and pulls all the colors together ! Great page! Great journaling!
This is my response to Scrap Happenzz Critique Group to use a Page Maps sketch; this is the 12x12 2-pager sketch from November '09. Please pardon the imperfect scans/stitching - the margins, plus the brown photo inking where the pages meet, got cropped off, the left page looks crooked here...the whole thing matches up better IRL.
This is from a 2008 Oregon trip - the hike was REALLY steep plus there was light rain so it was slippery too!
The lt green cs was already patterned but I added some stamping too. The felt was a giftie from Eat Sleep Scrap I think - thanks Melissa! I'm not sure why I went w/ the yellow, as it was raining that day, but the colors seemed to call to me & work for this, so I did.
No obligation to read this but here's the journaling (I also sum up the trip at the end because this was our last day of vacation: "June 2008, we went to Portland, OR for Patty's med school graduation (sadly, I first had to go to Houston for Uncle Jhun's funeral, bittersweet as I was grateful to see family), then Greg & I met Shirley in cool Hood River – it was awesome to rent a neato townhouse & kick back. On Fri Jun 6, we met Jeff, Patty, Esti & furry Reggie at Starvation Creek for a hike in light rain. We took the Mt. Defiance 'easier' trail – townsfolk said it was steep but w/ a mellow descent & Jeff's trail book classified it 'Easy.' WRONG! Other trails might've been longer or more rigorous, but this trail's EXTREME STEEPNESS was challenging for ALL. Parts had sheer drops to the side; combined w/ MUD, it was terrifying! Though I proudly overcame the fear in spots. Greg wore Converses & slipped a few times, Patty/Jeff had Esti! Shirley got a little vertigo. Most difficult for me was descending a few near-vertical mud inclines. I will be more aware of 'moderate' steep hikes, in the rain, in the future! Still, it was excellent to be active & see spectacular views. After, a well-deserved yummy lunch at Full Sail Brewery (tempeh burger w/ Oregon cheese & bacon for me). Esti was so cute! *** That night, Shirley Greg & I planned to see a kids' rock band open for a blueswoman, but we were so spent & wanted to wash our muddy jeans & relax. Picked up Japanese food downtown where live music was abound for 'First Friday,' cool. We however were content to eat at home (tasty salmon/crab rolls, miso soup, seawood salad for me) & sleep EARLY! ***OVERALL, a marvelous holiday despite a sad start. Positive to reconnect w/ my family & friends in TX. Good to cheer Patty. Amazing to get away w/ Greg, see Shirley & have the experience of both utter relaxing & CRAZY hiking! Fab vacation!"
Big THANKS to Dee for hosting this challenge! I always enjoy working w/ sketches but hardly ever remember to do so. So much appreciation for the inspiration!
