Journaling says:
Our Mommy was 34 weeks pregnant with us when she had a cold for over a week. She was coughing with a sore throat and congestion, so her obstetrician recommended that she see her primary care physician about the cold. That Friday she went to her doctor, and when the medical assistant took her blood pressure, it was high. She called her obstetrician and was told to come in to OB triage to be checked out, and so that they could make sure we were doing alright.

Mommy and Daddy arrived at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center OB triage at 7:30pm on Friday, November 3rd, 2006. Mommy’s blood pressure was indeed very high, and her lab work showed that she had a condition called preeclampsia. The nurses attached monitors to Mommy’s belly to check our heartbeats, and we were doing just fine, although Mommy was having a lot of Braxton-hicks contractions. We were told that we would get to meet Mommy and Daddy that very night, because the condition Mommy had only gets worse and doesn’t ever get better until the babies are delivered. We were excited but Mommy and Daddy were very anxious about meeting us so soon! They were worried that we wouldn’t be ready for the outside world, but they were convinced by the doctors that it would be best for everyone involved, especially Mommy, to deliver us by caesarian section immediately.

So Mommy was prepared for delivery, and Daddy got dressed up in a blue bunny suit with a funny hat and mask. Mommy walked into the OR and was prepared for our arrival. They cleaned her belly with some special soap, draped blue paper all over the place, and started making her numb from the armpits down. Once the doctors were all ready to go, Daddy came in and sat up at Mommy’s head, giving her support and encouragement.

Mommy had a real hard time breathing, because she was so congested, and the anesthesia paralyzed some of her muscles making it difficult to take a deep breath in. The experience of being awake during major surgery was very strange for her, but she says it was totally worth it to be awake to hear our first cries. We were born at 12:30am on Saturday, November 4th, 2006.

The special nursery staff evaluated us right away, then brought us over to meet our Mommy and Daddy for the very first time. We were whisked away to the neonatal intensive care unit while Mommy was stitched up and brought into recovery. Daddy got to come see us right away, but Mommy had to stay in her own room for 24 hours due to her preeclampsia condition. The nurses taking care of us took our pictures and sent them to Mommy’s room so she could really see what we looked like. Mommy and Daddy then decided what our names would be, and we got to spend some more time with Mommy the next day.
