I store my things the same way. It works for me because that is how I think when I scrap. It also makes it easy to take to crops. For instance, when I went last time I was doing Christmas. I pulled my Christmas paper, all the boxes that had the colors on the papers, my Christmas embellisments and ribbons and I was good to go.
This is how I store most of my embellies... the box is from Michael's; it has one large open area and 9 removable canisters that are slightly bigger than an old 35mm film container. I have one container for most colors, but I don't use much yellow or orange so they are grouped in one box. In the open half, I keep larger things like flowers, and in the canisters I keep buttons, brads, eyelets, etc. sorted by size or brand, whichever works better based on each box's contents. I was scared to organize embellies like this at first because I was very strict about keeping like items together... all buttons will be here, all flowers here, and on and on. But I have found that I like this system much better! If I'm working on a page and I know I want something black, I pull out the black box and everything is right there. Very handy!
