I've never tried saffron but intend someday. What is your mortar and pestle made from? Mine are marble. Ever seen how saffron is grown? It's clear why it is so expensive.

I was given the saffron since I'm such a gourmand. lol. I even bought this mortar and pastel just for the saffron. All are stored together in the baggie.

I made saffron rice with the powder. Doesn't take much to color and flavor the rice. :D
