I just bought that knife set for my ds. It's for his culinary arts course that I'll start teaching him on Monday.
He was so excited about these knives that he had to chop/slice things. Never realized that he's never used a paring knife before. He cut his thumb with it. Great way to break in new knives, huh?
Plus he cut off the entire root of the onion. So right off I was able to teach him proper paring knife skills and how to cut up an onion. To think he's cut up so many onions already and he's been doing it wrong. I really try hard not to hover when I teach but I may have to change my tactics on that.
The bleeding was humbling, he needed that. He loves his knives and will be tested next week on their names (types) and proper usages. lol
=====================
No, you don't cut off the onion root end until you're finished with cutting the rest of the onion. It will hold things together making it easier, safer and faster to cut. lol
