I saw another done this way, rug was stitched to a heavy fabric, the fabric was then stretched over a board (plywood) and then the board was framed in a very narrow frame. I look great.
I have no clue about framing this but if it were mine I would not trim much off. I like the fringed edges and I like it against the red bg too. A teal bg would be just as pretty too. Good luck. Be sure to share the finished product!
neat looking rug - I agree with Lori - taking it to a professional would be best. Other wise, I'm not sure what I would try. I guess I'd try to trim the edges, and then use something to bind it better so it wouldn't unravel all the way.
Oh it is a cool rug! I'm not sure what you could do. I would suggest taking it to a Michaels or HL for info on framing but I'm sure there are none of those right near you! Hope someone else has a good suggestion for you!
For DH's 40th b-day I am hoping to frame this rug. Toph's mom got this rug in Iran before the revolution while doing some research. Toph for many years used this rug at the front door. I'd like to trim, mat it, and frame it, any suggestions? It's about 3 by 5 feet.
