This started life as a practice board for my rusted table that I've been working on since last summer. I needed to rust unfinished wood for the top, and didn't want to do it without knowing how it would turn out. But I think this is one of my fav projects ever! I'm entering it in an art show next month. The wood has Modern Masters Oxidizing Iron, then Wood Icing (the only texture paste that will hold up to the oxidizing process), Then Oxidizing Copper paint that patinas beautifully. Then I thought that if you could rust wood, then why not paper? So the strip at the top and the hearts were cut with WC paper, then rusted. I was so thrilled with how it turned out. I then made the butterfly out of a hinge and some copper wire, and went through my box of rusty stuff and added all the metal pieces. A long, complicated process, but well worth it. Paint and pastes just CANNOT duplicate real rust!
