This was during our visit in Stone Town, Zanzibar.
Rich Indian landowners exhibited their wealth through their carved doors. However, Indien Merchants preferred security and simplicity in their door designs.
In this, they brought with them the four-leaf gujarat doors that expose the whole shopfront to customers. Door panels were studded with dhow nails.
When asking any visitr to Zanzibar what best reminds them of Spice Island, there is a 1:3 chance that the answer will be Stone Town... and then again 1:3 will remembeer the famous carved doors - Zanzibar doors.
