God bless Ruth! Check out this partial verse from the book of Ruth:
For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.
Sort of fits for her doesn't it? Those orphan trains were not a pleasure from the way I understand it. Sad and desperate times.
Your lo is truly an honor to her and really lovely :)
The flowers are just sumptuous! Wonderful vintage lo - what is the story behind the Orphan Train? Did it happen during the war? In the UK it happened during WW2 - children were sent out of the cities to live with families in the countryside where it was thought to be safer - but the families they stayed with were not always welcoming!
what a pricless photo and touching story...i've heard tales of the train and you have brought such a important part of our history and your heritage to life...well done
I participated in a Swirlydoo Round Robin with this entry. The first member of my team posted this fabulous sketch, and I lifted it to create a layout for my grandmother, Ruth, who was one of thousands of children that were part of the "Orphan Train" experiments during the early 1900's in New York. This pic reflects Ruth's adopted mother and new relatives. She endured an arduous journey to find a new home where she was loved and cared for by her new family.
