I can't believe I forgot to post this here! The story behind this picture....for years I had searched off and on in vain to find a hummingbird nest. Last June I was out and about on our place and I heard a bird singing...I think it was a Vireo. Anyway, I was trying to find that elusive bird to photograph when I walked under our basswood tree and there was this little female hummingbird flying all around me. She'd light on a branch, sit there, and when I would move around she'd do it again, going from branch to branch. Sooo, I got suspicious thinking her nest was nearby. I looked up over my head and right there in plain sight was the cutest little nest you ever saw! My heart started thumping!! I took several pictures of the nest, then moved away and she flew back to it and I was able to capture several pictures of her in it. This picture is going in my mini album that I am making right now along with the actual nest she's sitting in! It's not much bigger than a quarter in circumference! After her little ones hatched and they flew the coop, my son had to cut the branch off the tree because it hung down too long to mow the grass underneath so I found the nest and kept it! Pretty exciting, huh?!
