Oh my gosh - this is such a fabulous vintage LO with such a wonderful story - this LO showcases the beautiful September Scraps of Elegance so beautifully. I love all the layering, distressing and paper tearing . . . and those photos are marvelous - lucky you to have them, and then one of his uniforms and his mess kit. This goes in my FAVE's and puts you in my favorite artist category.
It's Round Robin time again at Scraps of Darkness/Scraps of Elegance! Lynjea, our Guest Designer of the Month, started off our team with her gorgeously nostalgic So Handsome layout. Violent Kittie followed Lynjea's lead and created her striking nostalgia-themed layout, Great Greats. Now it's my turn. Thanks to both of them for their wonderfully inspiring entries!
This is my Grandpa on my mom's side, at about age 10 as a budding lad, and at 25, when he proudly served in WWI. I don't have this uniform, but I do have his field uniform and his mess kit. Anyway, I think it is interesting that he had the same look on his face in both pictures - determined and serious, which he was throughout life. After WWI, he returned home to Illinois, and he and my Grandma focused on raising their family on the farm that he continued to build up over the years. I have many fond memories of visiting their farm as a child, where I played in the pastures and the barns. I do have a few bad memories of being chased by sheep with horns and angry bees, though!
I utilized September's Scraps of Elegance Kit, Nostalgia, to make my entry. Melinda - thank you for pulling together this soft and lovely kit! It has an array of gorgeously soft papers from Pion and coordinating soft flowers, rub-ons, pearls, and resins. I especially like the Prima Shabby Chic "La Coeur" heart/leaf resins, one of which I utilized above the big picture of Grandpa.
I did a lot of paper distressing and layering for this layout, and forced myself not to use too much bling or bright colors, to try and stay within the Nostalgia theme. But I did manage to use my new Mini-8 punch again, which is proving to be very versatile.
Thanks in advance for looking, and I really appreciate your comments/critiques.
